Embroidery Hoop Art

Have you guys seen the embroidery hoop art floating around Pinterest lately? I think they are just too cute. We recently painted our kitchen this past weekend and my old decor just wasn't cutting it so I thought the embroidery hoop art would be perfect to go above our stove and add a splash of color. WOW that was a big run on sentence. Any who I went down to our local scrapbook store that also carries AMAZING designer fabrics like Amy Butler, Joel Dewberry, Michael Miller, Moda, etc.(for anyone that lives in the east valley its scrapbook etc on the NE corner of Lindsay and University) I found these amazing prints in the Joel Dewberry Aviary collection. I am loving the grey, yellow, black and white color combination right now. This is probably the easiest decor that you can make.
Supplies-
  • Embroidery hoop (I got mine at Michaels, but can be found at Hobby Lobby, Joanns, Walmart)
  • Fabric
  • Pen
  • Scissors

I Purchased 3 embroidery hoops, each a different size and 3 fat quarters. Iron out your fabric so you have no wrinkles. Place the outer part of the embroidery hoop on top of the fabric and trace around it.
cut about 1 inch around your markings. Place the fabric on top of the inner hoop and place the outer hoop on top and press down. Pull the fabric sticking out taught.
Turn over and trim off the excess fabric. Now you can hang them on your walls! I now love the decor about my stove. You can always paint your embroidery hoops as well to add some more color.

Flower Headbands

Oh boy, There is just something about little girls that have on cute little accessories that makes my heart smile. When my daughter was born she probably had a headband, and bracelet for every outfit til the day she wouldn't wear them anymore. That day made me sad. However I can't stop making the cute stuff. I always have to tell my husband that they make great baby shower gifts to justify my little shopping sprees at the ribbon store. A while back I was at a baby shower of my friends and she received the cutest little headband. The lady said she made it, so I thought to myself I should make one too! Ribbons and lace here in Mesa and Chandler, AZ is my best friend. They have elastic in every color and are now carrying all of these cute flower trims. I have also found them at Hobby Lobby and Joanns, and SAS.
Supplies-
Elastic
Hot glue gun
Scissors
button or decorative piece for the center

I made mine in order to fit a newborns head. I got 14 inches of elastic and 2 flowers from the ribbon roll. Don't you just love when they let you buy by the inch instead of by the yard.
You will want to put a big ol' fat glob of glue on one end of your elastic and fold the other end over on top so its overlapping a little bit.
Press down on it for a few seconds until it is pretty much dried.
Put another big glob of glue just to the side of the center and glue one flower on top. Leave a little gap and do the same on the other side.
Its really hard to see since its black on black but you will have the two flowers on top.
Get a button or gem of some sort to glue in the middle. This head band is so stinkin simple but SO cute! I had to see what it looked like on so my poor son had to model it for me. Now only if I had a little girl to wear these cute things.

Boutique Style Wipe Case

(Don't mind that I misspelled Boutique in the picture above)
Today I went to my local ribbon store and while I was there I saw these adorable boutique style wipe cases. I have been oohing and awing over them the past several times I have gone in and today was the day I decided to finally make one...Or two...
Supplies:
  • Batting
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun and glue of course!
  • 2.5 inch wide satin ribbon
  • embellishment of some sort. I like flowers!
  • Huggies Wipe case
First you are going to glue some batting onto your wipe case. I laid my wipe case on top of the batting and cut around it to get my size I needed.
Glue the batting down to your wipe case and trim the excess off.
You will need 1/3 yard of 2.5 in ribbon. I like to use the satin stuff! On the raw edge lay a thin strip of glue down. Fold over to make a nice clean edge.
Make sure to center your ribbon in the middle of the wipe case. Glue down the edge.
Wrap the ribbon around to the back side gluing the outer edges along the way.
Fold the other raw edge over and glue down as previously done before.
You will need 2/3 yards of this Wired Rose Ribbon. You can find it here

Cut your 2/3 yard of fabric in half giving you two pieces. Follow the same steps as before, folding over your raw edge, gluing down, wrapping it around, and gluing again. Do this to both sides. Be sure and start gluing the inner edge of the ribbon right next to the snap closure part in the front where the lip thing is. This should give you a perfect fit.
Glue the outer edges down.
You are going to need to fold your corners in and glue down. Just work with it until you can get it to lay good. It should be fairly easy to do. Glue it in place once you do. It should look like the picture above.
On the back where is opens put a small dot of glue in the middle of the ribbon.
Fold in down so it lays nice and finish gluing the sides.
There you have it. Almost done. Now its up to you how to make it fancy. I put another ribbon in the middle to make it a little more fun and then added a flower on top.
Have fun with it! I think I just may have to go and make another one now! I'm in LOVE!

If you had difficulties understanding my tutorial here is a video tutorial you can watch on how to make these as well.
